Rep. Nita Lowey Grills Bill Barr on ‘Unacceptable’ Handling of Mueller Report

"I presume we're going to get the redacted report within a week", Nadler said Tuesday. "And so I think that from my standpoint, within a week I will be in a position to release the report to the public".
Barr told members of Congress at his first public appearance since receiving special counsel Robert Mueller's report that his earlier projection of releasing a version by mid-April still stood. Butler said the Mueller report and related records could help inform the "ongoing public debate" around the Russian Federation investigation. It can also be viewed live on C-SPAN. The topic of the House appropriations subcommittee hearing is the Justice Department's budget, and Barr's prepared remarks sent to the committee on Monday focused on funding requests for immigration enforcement and to combat violent crime and opioid addiction, not mentioning Mueller's report at all.
"That's great news he's looking into how this whole thing started back in 2016", said Representative Jim Jordan, the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee.
The no collusion finding, then, is one that many Americans will want to investigate more closely, and only a release of the full report will allow us to independently verify for ourselves what Mueller's team found.
The Justice Department will redact grand-jury information, information that would reveal intelligence sources and methods, information that affects the privacy of "peripheral players" not charged as a result of the investigation, and information that would compromise ongoing prosecutions, Barr said.
Barr's reference to "spying" may refer to a secret surveillance warrant that the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained in the fall of 2016 to monitor the communications of former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, who has not been charged with any wrongdoing and has denied being a Russian spy.
Mr Mueller sent his final report to Barr on 22 March, ending his nearly two-year investigation into possible ties between Mr Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation. Barr also said he did not alert the White House in advance about his letter's release or consult anyone in the White House when writing his letter.
In the House, Barr was squaring off with Democrats who have subpoena power and have already authorized a subpoena in the Judiciary Committee to obtain the full Mueller report and underlying evidence.
Barr will likely repeat his announcement on Wednesday in the Republican-controlled Senate Appropriations Committee, where it's likely to gain more traction: Much of the questioning in the Democrat-controlled House committee involved Barr's plan to release the full Mueller report, and its corroborating evidence. Democrats have expressed concern that his version will hide wrongdoing by the president and are frustrated by the four-page summary letter he released last month that they say paints Mueller's findings in an overly favorable way for the president.
Trump seems to be of the same mind.
Although Mr Barr admitted that he will release the report quickly, he also confirmed that he will not provide Congress with an unredacted version.
CHANG: How does he square that? - because, especially with the redactions, say, related to the reputational interests, where's the transparency?
Mueller concluded his investigation in late March and turned over a almost 400-page report to Barr. Everyone will soon be able to read it on their own. He later described in a March 29 follow-up letter what kind of material would be redacted and announced he meant to release the report by mid-April, if not sooner.
Expressing frustration with the lack of information given to Congress, Lowey pointed to news reports suggesting the final report from Mueller's team is between 300 and 400 pages long.
