Nielsen out at Homeland Security as Trump focuses on border

  • Trump to make case for Jewish voters to back his 2020 bid

Speaking at a Republican Jewish Coalition gathering in Las Vegas, Trump said he made the decision during a discussion with his top Middle East peace advisers, including the US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"Special thanks to Representative Omar of Minnesota", Mr. Trump said, jokingly.

President Donald Trump's administration says the policy responds to a crisis at the southern border that has overwhelmed the ability of immigration officials to detain migrants.

"I have determined that it is the right time for me to step aside", Nielsen wrote in her resignation letter.

She accused Jewish Americans of having a "dual loyalty" to both the US and Israel and said that support for the Jewish state was "all about the benjamins".

Federal prosecutors announced Friday that Patrick Carlineo Jr. was arrested after placing a threatening call to Omar's office in Washington D.C. last month. Last week, the White House withdrew the nomination of acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Ronald Vitiello to lead the agency on a permanent basis - a move the president said was part of a "tougher" approach on immigration his administration was undertaking.

The American Civil Liberties Union, one of the groups that filed the lawsuit, hailed the ruling as a "very important decision" on an "unpredecented" attempt to block asylum seekers from setting foot on US soil.

Deadline for Jussie Smollett to Reimburse Chicago Police $130000 Ends Today
The prosecutor's office presented the case to a grand jury, which indicted Smollett on 16 charges of filing a false police report. Actor Jussie Smollett makes a court appearance at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago.

Ironically, trafficking in the dual loyalty charge is what Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has been accused of when she questioned the "allegiance" of Israel supporters in America, suggesting they placed Israel above US interests.

"I stood with your prime minister at the White House to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights", Trump told the crowd.

But he did once again express confidence in his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who is working on the plan. Trump asked rhetorically before being reminded that the Jewish Republicans in the audience, including mega-donor Adelson, were among those what didn't back the former president. Yoffie also decried Netanyahu's "excessive enthusiasm" for Trump.

"You know, the president's budget is a starting point but it's Congress' responsibility under the Constitution to produce a budget and the Democrats have already said they are not going to do one this year".

Many of men and several women wore red yarmulkes with "Trump" emblazoned in white that were distributed at the event.

Trump says in a speech at the group's annual meeting in Las Vegas that he's grateful to members for "your incredible support and your outstanding commitment to our country to our safety and to electing more Republicans".

After Omar said that the United States support for Israel was motivated by donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, several House Democrats dubbed the comments as offensive and invoking anti-Semitic stereotypes.
