House panel gives subpoena the go for Mueller report

Barr delivered to Congress a letter in late March a summary of the report that said the special counsel found no evidence that Donald Trump's presidential campaign had colluded with the Russians. The Times says in its report that the investigators are concerned that because Barr's summary was "the first narrative" of the team's findings, the public's views will be fixed before the final report is released.

"The department continues to work with the special counsel on appropriate redactions to the report so that it can be released to Congress and the public", Kupec said.

Barr issued a four-page summary March 24 of the Mueller report and its investigation into allegations the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation to influence the election in Trump's favor.

Barr is in the process of redacting certain types of sensitive information in the almost 400-page document and said he plans to release it by mid-April. But Barr, in consultation with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, concluded that there was not enough evidence to accuse Trump of obstruction.

The Democratic-led House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Wednesday to authorize subpoenas for Mueller's full report after the Justice Department missed a Democrat-imposed deadline Tuesday.

Nadler compared Mueller's report to the release of the Ken Starr report into President Bill Clinton, holding up boxes of information produced by Starr along with "some of the grand jury material" from the Nixon impeachment process.

"We are entitled to that information and we need that information", Nadler told reporters on Thursday.

Mueller's team reportedly wrote "multiple summaries of the report". He said he is aiming to submit a redacted version of the report to Congress by mid-April after removing classified and grand jury material, as well damaging information about peripheral players who were not charged with crimes.

The vote further escalates the Democrats' battle with the Justice Department over how much of the report they will be able to see, a fight that could eventually head to court if the two sides can't settle their differences through negotiation.

On Thursday, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said those alleged summaries could contain important information for the public. He is now expected to release the entire report, with some redactions, by mid-April. Most of the documents were provided, however, and Harriett Miers, the former White House counsel under President George W. Bush, had to testify under oath, but in a closed, transcribed hearing.

Her response was to pivot and complain that Democrats are just mad that President Donald Trump beat them - even though this report doesn't have anything to do with Democrats.

The Times' lede paragraph was demolished by Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel, who pointed out that the story was based on the words of anonymous "government officials" and "others" who were "familiar" with what the Mueller "investigators" told their "associates".

"I hope to raise public awareness and support our politicians in their effort to have the full Mueller report released immediately", Flythe said.

Barr himself has faced significant criticism for his abstract on the report, as well as his actions related to the special counsel prior to his appointment as attorney general.

Nearly every shift in partisan control of Congress after a unified government has been followed by a wave of congressional investigations, and that's especially true in intensely polarized times, says Douglas Kriner, co-author of the book, "Investigating the President: Congressional Checks on Presidential Power" and a government professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
