  • Trump ‘disappointed’ by North Korean missile activity reports following breakdown of nuclear talks

Its state television aired a 78-minute documentary late on Wednesday showing a cordial mood between Trump and Kim as the Hanoi summit ended, indicating Pyongyang was not about to walk away from negotiations, experts say.

"The public at home and overseas. are feeling regretful, blaming the United States for the summit that ended without an agreement", an editorial published by KCNA wrote.

A South Korean defense spokeswoman says the US and South Korea are sharing intelligence about the activity at a missile research center on the outskirts of Pyongyang and at a separate long-range rocket site.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has offered to return to North Korea to help restart negotiations on denuclearization, as progress has come to a standstill between Pyongyang and the administration of President Donald Trump. But the documentary didn't mention about the lack of an agreement following the Kim-Trump summit.

Now Trump is sending Kim a warning amid signs of resumed activity at Tongchang-ri just two days after their summit in Hanoi ended abruptly without an agreement.

Ahead of the summit in Vietnam's capital of Hanoi, a rift opened within Moon's administration over how to advance Korean ties without undercutting worldwide sanctions and the alliance with the United States.

"The intent of the North Koreans in this matter is known only to them", he added.

The images, which were released to the US's National Public Radio, also showed activity at North Korea's Sohae site which has been the scene of satellite launches in recent years.

South Korean calls for partial sanctions relief to encourage nuclear disarmament steps by North Korea has caused disagreements with Washington, which does not want to give up what it sees as its main leverage with the North.

A State Department official told the Wall Street Journal that the US doesn't know why there were works at the site and noted that the situation is being monitored.

Meanwhile, 38 North, a website specializing in North Korea studies, said commercial satellite imagery indicates the rebuilding started between February 16 and March 2.

During a White House meeting today with the prime minister of the Czech Republic, Mr Trump said he was "a little disappointed" by new activity detected at a research centre where the North is believed to build long-range missiles.

There are close to 30,000 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, and their annual drills with tens of thousands of South Korean soldiers have always infuriated the North - with Pyongyang condemning the maneuvers as provocative rehearsals for invasion.

'According to Planet imagery, I can definitely say the train has left the station.

Meanwhile, a US -based think tank has said it appears the North is rebuilding its ballistic missile test facility, which it had partially dismantled.

A U.S. government source, who did not want to be identified, said North Korea's plan in rebuilding the site could have been to offer a demonstration of good faith by conspicuously stopping again if a summit pact was struck, while furnishing a sign of defiance or resolve if the meeting failed.

She said the images are more likely connected to a satellite launch than any military missile activity. "We also don't know how far the train has gotten".

The comments, made during a briefing at a parliamentary session, also noted that North Korea stopped the operations of a five-megawatt reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear complex late past year with no signs of reprocessing activities there.
