  • UK Foreign Secretary Defends Move to Not Rescue Shamima Begum's Baby Says Would Have Been Too Dangerous

The baby of Shamima Begum, a British teenager who joined the Islamic State and has sought to return home even as she has defended the group's actions, has died in a detention camp in Syria, according to a spokesman for the group holding the woman.

The debates over how the United Kingdom should treat so-called "cubs of the caliphate" and their mothers, who fled to Syria to marry Daesh* fighters but want to return back to Europe as the jihadists were curbed, has flared up over the case of one of such women - Londoner Shamima Begum who had her citizenship revoked.

In an interview recorded before he found out Ms Begum's baby son had died in a refugee camp, Ahmed Ali urged the British government and public to take her back.

British Islamic State bride Shamima Begum's baby son has died in Syria, her family's lawyer claims.

Her son's death comes after UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid made a decision to revoke her British citizenship.

"The government will continue to do whatever we can to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and travelling to risky conflict zones", he said.

Critics of the British government's inaction and claims that it is too risky to enter the region, note aid workers and journalists have reached people, including Begum, within Syria's sprawling refugee camps on multiple occasions.

Her case has highlighted a dilemma facing many European countries, divided over whether to allow jihadists and IS sympathisers home to face prosecution or bar them from entry.

For them the death of baby Jarrah is a tragedy.

The Sunday Times says that Reema, 30, and Zara, 28, are living in separate refugee camps in Syria along with thousands of other families who have fled from territory formerly controlled by jihadis.

Speaking to Matt Frei, the former Met chief superintendent Dal Babu said that Shamima Begum's child was "innocent" amid a row over whether the Isis bride should be allowed to return to the UK. "This is callous and inhumane", tweeted Abbott.

If the mother & baby had been brought home, the mother Shamima Begum would have faced British justice, but the baby might have lived.

British law states that the government cannot strip a person's citizenship if that would make the person stateless, although the interior minister may do so if there are "reasonable grounds" to believe they can become a citizen of another country. She said she wanted to come home so she didn't lose another child.

"If it is possible somehow for a British child to be brought to a place where there is a British consular presence, the closest place-it might be Turkey for example-in those circumstances I guess potentially it is possible to arrange for some sort of help with the consent of the parent", he told a lawmakers committee. At one point, she told the BBC that although she was unhappy that innocent people had been killed, she thought the 2017 bombing of an arena in Manchester was "fair justification" in response to coalition airstrikes that have killed women and children in Syria.

Despite his marriage to Iqbal, Da Costa is said to have married Natalie Bracht after grooming her on the internet.
