Ocasio-Cortez Scandal: AOC's Aide Funneling $1M Into Private Accounts, Watchdog Claims

  • U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez D-N.Y. listens to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Feb. 5 2019

The complaint, filed by the watchdog National Legal and Policy Center, charges the arrangement violated reporting requirements and possibly the $5,000 limit on contributions from federal PACs to candidates. Even more tellingly, while Brand New Campaign LLC is registered in DE, there are no Secretary of State records for Brand New Congress LLC, and the time or location of its incorporation remain unknown. One of the thoughts among pundits was that the moment Bernie Sanders entered the race, the very popular Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would quickly endorse his candidacy. Sen.

A typical PAC has to disclose how the funds are used, including all campaign events, advertising, and donations to candidates.

The payments were apparently made for the goal of "Strategic Consulting", which is - to say the least - extremely ambiguous, if not outright suspicious.

Ocasio-Cortez's swift rise and outspoken personality make her a prime target for GOP lawmakers and conservative media outlets.

On Fox News Radio, Eric Trump said his family has "plenty of lawyers" and called Congress "incompetent" for spending time and resources on investigating the Trumps rather than on issues facing Americans like healthcare and education.

By CCN.com: Rookie U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been dragged into an emerging campaign finance scandal that could potentially compromise her carefully crafted reputation as the 'people's candidate, ' as well as call her political platform into question just three months after the 2018 midterm elections that saw her become the youngest-ever female member of Congress.

The group stated it ran campaigns in a similar fashion for at least nine other candidates. The corporation, Brand New Congress LLC, is owned by Saikat Chakrabarti, her now-chief of staff. Ocasio-Cortez's congressional campaign also reportedly paid Chakrabarti's company an additional $18,880 in 2017 for consulting. He's now Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff.

As Trent was acting as a spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez's campaign past year, he was receiving a salary from the Justice Democrats PAC.

David Mitrani, an attorney for the Ocasio-Cortez's campaign, the two PACs, and the company told ABC News in a statement that all of the entities have "fully complied with the law and the highest ethical standards".

When asked if her campaign took in "dark money", something the Congresswoman has taken a strong stand against, she made a shocked face and said "absolutely not".
