  • US House panel launches probe into possible obstruction by Donald Trump

The 81 names and entities on the Judiciary Committee's list touch all parts of Trump's life - the White House, his businesses, his campaign and the committee that oversaw the transition from campaign to presidency.

Nadler previewed the announcement on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, contending it's "very clear" that Trump obstructed justice.

Chairmen of the House Oversight, Foreign Affairs and intelligence committees said that in addition to the translators, they want to talk with anyone who was briefed - orally or in writing - about Trump-Putin meetings, and they also demanded to see all documents stemming from the talks.

A United States congressional committee is launching a sweeping new investigation into President Donald Trump, his White House, his campaign and his businesses.

And a year ago, the White House announced that it would stop the practice of regularly issuing readouts of phone calls between Trump and foreign leaders, which means the public has no idea how often he speaks with Putin by phone. But Nadler said talk of trying to remove Trump from office is premature.

The information gathered by the Judiciary Committee, along with that in the yet-to-be-released report by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Trump campaign links to Russian Federation and obstruction allegations, could form the basis of impeachment proceedings against Trump.

The latest move by the US House Judiciary Committee to launch an investigation into allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of justice by US President Donald Trump is actually a huge "trap" for Democrats themselves, Jim Kavanagh, editor of thepolemicist.net, told Sputnik.

Trump implied on Monday that he would work with the panel: "I cooperate all the time with everybody", he told a reporter who asked whether he would help Nadler.

At the White House, Trump was asked if he would cooperate with Nadler's probe.

The committee is also asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department and others for documents related to possible pardons for Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Comey was leading an investigation into Russian activities in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion with Trump's campaign when the president fired him in May 2017.

In a tweet on Sunday, Trump blasted Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, calling it a partisan probe unfairly aimed at discrediting his win in the 2016 presidential election. He said House Democrats, now in the majority, are simply doing "our job to protect the rule of law" after Republicans during the first two years of Trump's term were "shielding the president from any proper accountability".

Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said Monday the investigation will be focused on possible obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power.

"We will act quickly to gather this information, assess the evidence and follow the facts where they lead with full transparency with the American people", Nadler said. Democrats say Cohen's testimony before the House Oversight Committee last week directly implicated Trump in various crimes including campaign finance violations.

Cohen, who called Trump "a racist, a con man, a cheat", showed a House panel two $35,000 checks sent to him - one signed by the president and one signed by Donald Trump Jr. and Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization's chief financial officer. He said there would be more requests, which might involve additional people.
