  • F*ck the media’ Trump supporter goes berserk and attacks BBC cameraman at El Paso rally

The White House Correspondents' Association condemned on Tuesday an attack the night before of a television cameraman working at President Donald Trump's rally in El Paso, Texas.

Around the time Trump told the crowd that a wall at the southern USA border would cut down on violent crime in the US, cameraman Ron Skeans was violently shoved by a Trump supporter wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat.

"Here's the moment a guy wearing a red MAGA hat jumped into the media pen and shoved several cameras, including ours", Jacob Rascon, a reporter for KPRC in Houston, said on Twitter.

Skeans, the cameraman, told BBC News that he did not see the Trump supporter coming at him but felt a "very hard shove" that nearly knocked him down. "Fortunately our cameraman is fine, he is made of stern stuff". Video of the attack shows the man saying, "CNN sucks" and "F*** You!" as he his dragged away.

At the time of the incident, Skeans was filming Trump as he spoke on United States jobs and media.

Trump on Monday held his first campaign rally of the year in downtown El Paso, where he continued his push for constructing a wall at the U.S. -Mexico border.

The assault coincided with the president's speech, during which he criticized the media for misrepresenting him and producing "fake news".

A BBC producer tweeted about the altercation and directly blamed President Donald Trump for the assault.

A Trump campaign official suggested the attacker was drunk.

Trump said, prompting loud boos to echo through the auditorium.

The BBC's Washington correspondent, Gary O'Donoghue, tweeted that before the incident, Mr Trump denounced "supposed media bias" from the podium.

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has also spoken out to condemn the attack. "All of this despite the Fake News Media, which has gone totally out of its mind-truly the Enemy of the People!".

"The president could see the incident and checked with us that all was okay", the BBC said in a statement.

She later added: "To all those who asked after the cameraman - Ron is fine".

Trump paused his remarks following the commotion in the crowd and - pointing at the media - asked "You alright?"

However, BBC Washington Editor Eleanor Montague, whom he was with, told BBC the protester had attacked other crews within the rally but Skean "got the brunt of it".
