  • Omar Ilhan in anti-Semitism row for saying AIPAC money behind Republican support for Israel

She said she had meant to criticize an Israeli military action and didn't realize that the "hypnosis" imagery was regarded as an anti-Semitic trope.

"What makes congresswomen like Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar...so risky is that they are not simply talking to an outfit that I think is properly described as Hamas, doing business as [the Council on American-Islamic Relations], but that they fully share the Muslim Brotherhood's ideology and ambitions to achieve the triumph of Sharia in our country too", said Frank Gaffney, who's long considered the godfather of anti-Muslim activism in the US. "This is why I unequivocally apologise", she said, after top Democratic leaders sought an apology from her on her tweets.

Ilhan Omar, one of the first two Muslim women in the US Congress, drew stern rebukes from Republicans and fellow Democrats on Monday after suggesting US support for Israel is fuelled by money from the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.

On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Omar to apologize.

Gottheimer and Luria also want to establish that the Democrat Party is pro-Israel, referencing the Party's 1944 platform that included "the language supporting "a free and democratic Jewish commonwealth" in the region, four years before President Harry S. Truman recognized the establishment of the modern State of Israel". In her apology, Omar added that she still believes there is a "problematic role" for lobbyists, whether it's AIPAC or the NRA. "It's gone on too long and we must be willing to address it", she added. She said the statement came in the context of Israel's treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Omar's two tweets from the past weekend made it clear that hasn't happened. "There are some people who will see it as opening the door, giving the green light to violence against jews". And though he did not name Omar, he left little doubt that his statement was a response to her tweets. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), saying the freshman lawmaker should be "ashamed of herself" for the comments some have called anti-Semitic.

An hour later, Omar elaborated, writing that she thinks AIPAC is paying American politicians to take pro-Israel stances.

Omar's spokesman responded to a request for comment with a link to the congresswoman's tweeted apology.

Fallout from this latest exchange has been swift and bipartisan.

They did not say one blessed word about the fact that AIPAC is a legitimate part of American politics, like any other lobbying group, from the ACLU to #MeToo.

Black Panther roars with early Grammy Award win for musical score
Grande was quick to refute this account on Twitter , her chosen medium for handling such matters. She said: "I'm so proud to be part of a film that addresses mental health issues.

But instead of taking any punitive action, like stripping the Minnesota Democrat of her seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Pelosi & Co. merely called on her to apologize.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told MSNBC that he hopes the controversy can serve as "a lesson" for Omar. "Let's see what happens". A few Republicans have called for her to be removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

"At some point apologies aren't any good anymore or, "my bad" or "my misunderstanding" doesn't cut it anymore", he said.

And while the US Senate has advanced a bill that takes aim at the boycott Israel movement, otherwise known as Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS), the intense pressure and scrutiny on congresswomen Tlaib and Omar is about to become ever more focused and vicious. -Israeli relationship, highlighted by criticism from Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib of MI. She may as well have said "Rothschild", or "Soros", or "the money changers at the Temple".

In her first month in Congress, she has joined with colleagues to introduce the Freedom of Religion Act, designed as a challenge to US President Donald Trump's Muslim ban and she has spoken out against the administration's immigration policies.

Rose went on to say that as far as Omar is concerned, "it's time to move on" as he and reporters walked along.

"This is so fundamental to our democratic society in America", Hunges said.

But Rose, a first-term legislator from NY, was among her first critics.
