The label also is sold at retailers such as Macy's, Zappos and Amazon but the shoes in question are not now available on their websites.

Although the shoes come in both beige and black, it is the darker pair that has been getting all the attention. "Blackface is a white person (with blue eyes and pink lips) covered with black shoe polish or some other skin darkening product". However, the black style has critics pointing out the resemblance to classic blackface makeup.

The Italian brand apologized for the design and said it would remove the sweater off its website and from its retail stores.

Sources close to the 34-year-old singer told TMZ that she designed the shoes as a part of an entire collection and that they were never meant to be offensive.

The shoes are available at major retailers such as Dillards, Forever 21 and Lord & Taylor.

Toronto serial killer given life in prison for murdering eight
Justice McMahon called the crimes "pure evil" and especially condemned McArthur's exploitation of his victims' vulnerabilities. The 67-year-old self-employed landscaper pleaded guilty last week to murdering eight men with ties to Toronto's gay village.

Perry has yet to comment on the controversy, but she is reportedly pulling the shoes from sale.

Since being criticized on social media, the shoe has also been pulled from Dillard's and Walmart. "We have immediately removed them from Katy Perry Collections", it read.

Last week, Gucci was forced to pull a jumper from its new collection after similar accusations about blackface.

"We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organisation and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond", the brand added in its statement.
