  • Gloria Allred: R. Kelly is using ‘playbook from Donald Trump’ to silence alleged women victims

Ms Allred said Kelly sent the letter in October to another of Ms Rodgers' lawyers.

"We are here today to let Mr. Kelly know in no uncertain terms that he can not and will not intimidate his alleged victims into keeping silent about their allegations", one of her lawyers, Gloria Allred, said at the news conference Monday.

Anchor Stefan Holt also reports on the latest in the El Chapo drug trafficking trial, a hostage standoff in New Jersey and diaper bombs on the Lower East Side.

"No one should be victim-shamed, harassed, or retaliated against because she asserted her rights and spoke her truth", Rodgers said on Monday. "In addition, he posted private photos of her", Allred said during the press conference.

Gloria Allred is representing a woman named Faith Rodgers, who claims the singer abused her "mentally, sexually and verbally" and now he is attempting to silence her.

Kelly allegedly wrote in the letter that "if [Rodgers] persists in court action she will be subjected to public opinion", and demanded that she procure test results "proving the origin of her STD claim", according to CBS News.

It reads she should stop if she "really cares about her own reputation".

His lawyer, Steve Greenberg, has said his client is a victim of a TV hit piece. "I apologise to all of his survivors for working with him and for taking this long to speak out".

"We are here today to let Mr. Kelly know in no uncertain terms that he can not and will not intimidate his alleged victims into keeping silent", Allred said.

Since the Lifetime television documentary series "Surviving R. Kelly" was shown earlier this month, the singer has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.

Allred told reporters that she and Rodgers have "an appointment today with the New York City Police Department who has asked to meet with Faith in furtherance of their investigation into potential victims of R. Kelly". (The Facebook page was taken down after less than a day, for violating the social network's Community Standards.) Rodgers' mother also said in the press conference that she had received threats from Kelly. "Just as they have been, and are being held, accountable for their actions, you also must be accountable".
